Reg Gashnier

I am usually resistant to the idea of taking commissioned painting projects, but a good friend of mine is the organizer for the 2014 Black Hole Brawl Blood Bowl tournament in Raleigh, NC and asked if I would be willing to help out by painting a couple of star players that will be used as prizes. I think that good prize support really helps player enjoyment at events so I was happy to help out.

The first of the two figures that I was given to paint is a blood bowling dragon-man star. After doing a bit of research on this figure, I believe that this is Reg Gashnier. It was a miniature sculpted by Pedro Ramos for Willy Miniatures as the tournament miniature for the Australian Dragonbowl in 2012. I think he will be a nice star player option for any Lizardman or Slann team since he can probably serve as Lottabottol or perhaps Slibli. I really like how the red and gold on his armor contrast with the teal shade that I gave his skin. Now I am tempted to try painting an entire team with this color scheme since I think it really pops off the table top.

I have also finished a Jordell Freshbreeze prize for the Black Hole Brawl and will be posting that soon. Stay tuned.

Lizardman Team: First Painted Saurus

With the skinks for my Lizardman team, the Scavengers of Scape Ore, completed, I've turned my attention towards painting the Sauri for the team. Here's a look at the first Saurus player that I've finished (except that I need to add a few tufts of grass to the base). I decided to keep the sauri painted with the same green-yellow color scheme that I used for my skinks where the scales are green and the underbelly is a vibrant yellow. I like how the yellow adds a bit of visual pop to the miniature and will hopefully make them somewhat unique on the table-top.

Lizardman Team: Skinks

These skinks are the first players that I've completed for my Lizardman team, the Scavengers of Scape Ore. I will be playing this team in my local Blood Bowl league's summer season. The models are those from the resin Sarcos Team #2 from Impact! Miniatures which I posted about previously. In general, the quality of these resin casts is pretty good, but I did find a few issues on some of the small details with the skinks (baby crocs). Most noticeably, the figure with an outstretched hand had a finger missing on both of the copies that I received. Despite the casting flaws, the sculpts are nice and show a lot of personality. And, at just $35USD for a whole team they're an undeniably good value. I had a lot of fun painting them. I kept a consistent green and yellow scheme for my rostered skinks and painted one skink in a yellow-brown scheme to use as a journeyman when necessary.

Resin Lizards from Impact! Miniatures

I got a package of Blood Bowl goodies in the mail today from Impact! Miniatures. When I was putting my order in, I couldn't resist taking a chance on the new plastic resin team sets that they've recently made available. You can now get complete team sets suitable for Blood Bowl and Elfball from them for only $35. Right now, they only have the Scotlings and the Sarcos teams available in resin, but they have plans to make more of their offerings available in this material down the line. The set I have is the Sarcos Team #2 which includes 17 figures: 1 Leviathan, 8 Crocs (2 x 4 poses) and 8 Baby Cros (2 x 4 poses). I just wanted to post a few quick snaps of the figures straight from the box here at my desk. You can see that there is quite a bit of flash hanging on to some of the extremities. But, the detail looks sharp and the flash should clean up easily. The quality of the resin seems very good and I believe the casting is being done by Troll Forged from what I've gathered from following Impact! on Twitter.
